Privacy Policy

Effective 22 October, 2026

1. About this policy

This policy explains how Global Institute for National Capability Pty Ltd (ABN 30 693 203 155) ('GINC', 'we', 'us') handles personal information collected through ginc.org, its subdomains and related services (the Sites), and through our research activities. We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). This policy forms part of our Terms of Use.

GINC's research assesses nations and capabilities, not individuals. Most of the Material we publish contains no personal information.

2. Anonymity

You can browse the Sites without telling us who you are. Where practicable, you may also deal with us anonymously or under a pseudonym, for example when sending general feedback. We need your details only to reply to you, send you material you have asked for, or involve you in our research.

3. What we collect

We collect only what we need for the purposes in clause 5.

4. How we collect it

We collect personal information directly from you when you subscribe, fill in a form, contact us or take part in our research, and automatically through cookies and analytics when you use the Sites. We may also collect professional details from public sources, such as institutional websites and professional profiles, to identify and invite expert participants.

5. Why we use it

We use personal information to:

  • operate, secure and improve the Sites;

  • respond to enquiries;
  • recruit and manage expert participants and conduct our research;

  • meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell or rent personal information. Every newsletter includes a way to unsubscribe, in line with the Spam Act 2003 (Cth).

6. Cookies and analytics

The Sites use cookies and similar technologies to make them work, to understand in aggregate how they are used, and to measure the reach of our communications. We use Google Analytics for usage measurement and the Meta Pixel, which lets Meta (Facebook and Instagram) record visits to the Sites so that we can measure and target our communications on its platforms. Meta may combine this with information it already holds about you under its own privacy policy.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on, and manage how Meta uses this data in your Meta ad preferences. Parts of the Sites may work less well if you block cookies.

7. Who we share it with

We disclose personal information only to service providers who help us run the Sites and our research, and only as needed for that purpose, or where the law requires it. We hold personal information in Australia where our providers allow it.

We take reasonable steps to ensure overseas recipients handle personal information in a way consistent with the Australian Privacy Principles.

8. Artificial intelligence and automated decisions

We use artificial intelligence and computer programs in our research, mainly for quantitative analysis and simulation. These tools assess nations and capabilities. We do not use computer programs to make decisions, or to substantially and directly contribute to decisions, that significantly affect the rights or interests of individuals. We do not use personal information provided to us to train AI models made available to third parties.

9. Security and retention

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, including access controls and encryption in transit. No system is completely secure. We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes in clause 5 or as the law requires, and then delete or de-identify it.

10. Access and correction

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, by contacting us (clause 13). We will respond within 30 days. We may need to verify your identity, and in limited cases permitted by law we may decline a request, in which case we will tell you why.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

We may update this policy by publishing a revised version with a new effective date.
